About

Sleeping Fox Farm LLC was founded in 2004 by Gary and Angie Francart originally as a training and breeding facility for Warmblood sport horses. In 2006, they began the Thoroughbred rescue to fulfill their passion of helping give a second chance to ex-racehorses and young Thoroughbreds, receiving their official 501c3 non-profit status in 2011. Gary and Angie have dedicated their life’s work to providing a quality rescue program for select Thoroughbreds, as well as an alternative, solid, long-term rescue sanctuary and a rehabilitation and training facility. Our organization is dedicated to the love of Thoroughbred ex-racehorses’ welfare and care. At Sleeping Fox Farm Thoroughbred Rescue the horses’ come first and each horse gets the individual attention they need and more importantly, that they deserve.

More recently, in 2021, our organization relocated to Dillsburg Pennsylvania where we are working on rebuilding our farm and making it even better than before!  Our new farm features a beautiful lighted outdoor arena with TruTex footing, and a small but always growing cross country course with gorgeous mountaintop views.  Our sanctuary horses are currently still in Maryland while we work on building our fencing and getting grass ready so we can bring them up here with the rest of our horses.

Angie Francart

Founder/Co-President of Sleeping Fox Farm Thoroughbred Rescue & ECP Certified Eventing Coach

Angie’s main focus is Eventing and her rescue horses. Angie started her equine career at the young age of five years old when her mother purchased her a pony whom she competed and rode on the jumper circuit until she was nine. Her family also ran a riding school in Bethesda, Maryland and bred Arabians. At the age of 9, Angie began competing her 4 year-old Arabian stallion Duke and took him on to win at the National and Canadian National-levels in Park and Mounted Native Costume. Angie rode Duke for his entire career until he was retired at the age of 19.

Angie has personally trained all of her competition horses, except Bird who joined the competition string later in life. She and Gary purchased the original Sleeping Fox Farm in 2002 with a goal of breeding and raising warmblood sport horses. In 2006, their first foals were born, Lion and Lyric. Shortly after they also received their first OTTB Baby and she is considered the farms foundation mare. In 2007 Angie turned her focus to Eventing and now trained with Daniel ClasingClark Montgomery, Boyd Martin, Sharon White, Dom Schramm, Linda Zang, and Colleen Rutledge. Angie has competed several of her horses up through modified and preliminary levels and holds two gold, one silver, and one bronze medal with the USEA. She also just became a USEA ECP Level 1 (Novice) Certified Instructor. She still regularly competes with her thoroughbred mare Arsinoe (Queen) and most of her prior competition horses including Guapo, Porto, Bird, Ark, and Buddy continue to show all her students the ropes of Eventing!

By day, Angie is a registered nurse and specializes in surgical administration and leadership. She also holds an Associate and Bachelor’s degree in nursing and a Masters degree in health care administration along with her doctoral work in health care administration. However, horses are her true passion, and she would like to one day make them her primary career.

Gary Francart

Co-President of Sleeping Fox Farm Thoroughbred Rescue

Gary began his equine career when Angie and Gary bought the farm in 2002. He quickly mastered the techniques and skills required to actively engage in competition in both eventing and dressage. Gary’s first horse Bucky was rescued prior to the purchase of the farm and lived with Angie’s parents for a year. Gary’s mare Ali was purchased for him in 2006 and was trained and shown for several years until Gary also sought out an OTTB. Gary is currently the principle business partner/owner/manager of Sleeping Fox Farm and has competed up through the Novice level of Eventing with his horses. Gary also works as the Vice President of Sales for a software finance organization as well as managing day to day activities of the farm.
